- 2. DEMO ISSUES
-
-
- 2.1 Installation
-
- To install Neocron on your machine, start "neocron_offline_demo_eng.exe" with
- a double-click.
-
- Follow the instructions for a full installation of the game.
-
-
- 2.2 Starting the game
-
- Click on the Neocron demo icon on your computers desktop. The demo will start
- and you will have the choice to configure basic graphics, sounds and game keys when
- you choose "Options". Alternatively you can directly start the game. See '3.2
- Default keys' for the default setup of the keyboard configuration. There are
- additional options once you have started the game: enter the game menu to
- configure the graphic options (see below).
-
- There are two different interface modes in Neocron: "Action" and "R.P.O.S."
- mode. In "Action" mode you can walk around, open doors, collect items and fight.
- In "R.P.O.S." mode you will have access to your game menu and be able to use
- different tools to create or use certain items. "R.P.O.S." is the abreviation of
- "retina projected operation system" and is actually what your character sees
- when certain brain implants display the menu on the retina of his eyes. You can
- switch between both modes by pressing the "R.P.O.S." mode key ("TAB" by
- default).
-
- While in "R.P.O.S." mode you can access different submenus on the top bar of
- the interface. For example: to access your inventory enter "R.P.O.S." mode and
- click on "Inventory". If you want to equip armor, click on "Armor" as well and
- drag the piece of armor from your inventory to the corresponding slot in the
- armor window. To equip a weapon, drag the weapon from the inventory to a free
- Quickslot on the right side of the interface. Then switch to "Action" mode
- (press "TAB" again) and access the Quickslot where you put the weapon by
- pressing the corresponding key (see default '3.2 Default Keys' below). You can
- quickly use numerous other items this way, for example a flashlight.
-
- If you have any question on what a certain menus functionality is, simply click
- on the question mark on the top right corner of the menus window. A help window
- will pop up and give you all necessary information on what to do. Note that not
- all functionalities of the game work in this demo version; e.g. "Hypercom" is
- the chat system of the game and only works in the online version.
-
-
- 2.3 Questions and answers
-
- "I am running and running - then suddenly my character crouches - why is that?"
-
- Keep an eye on the status of your characters stamina (STA) in the bottom right
- corner of the interface: while your character is running, his stamina value goes
- slowly towards zero. Once on or below zero, you will need to pause a while
- before your character can walk or run again. The more your character runs, the
- more it trains and increases your stamina.
-
-
- "Some objects I get from corpses are completely dark red - why is that?"
-
- Your character can only use objects that he has the right skills for. With more
- experience and training your character will be able to use more and more complex
- objects.
-
-
- "What happens if my character dies in the demo?"
-
- Once you have died, you can restart from a nearby point by clicking the left
- mouse key. In the full online version You will experience certain "synaptic
- impairments", since your character was replicated and is not fully functional
- right after this process. You can then open the 'Skills' to see which skills
- are below normal and how long the recovery time will approximately be.
-
-
- "Can I kill S.T.O.R.M.-Bots or other civilians?"
-
- Sure you can - but beware: S.T.O.R.M.-Bots are pretty strong and you will not
- stand a chance against them. Civilians should not be killed by you since in this
- demo you are a CityAdmin agent. That is why we gave them a very high health
- value.
-
-
- "Why is there no save/load function in the demo?"
-
- The demo is based on the same engine which the game will be using in online
- mode. Since in the real game the player will not be able to save the game (it is
- a multiplayer game after all) there also is no such feature in the demo.
- Frankly, it would have been a great hassle to implement it only for the purpose
- of having it in this demo.
-
-
- "I run the demo on Win95 and it says "WS2_32.DLL missing" - what do I do?"
-
- You can still run the demo - just download Windows Socket 2 Update (986 KB)
- from http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/WUAdminTools/S_W
- UNetworkingTools/W95Sockets2/Default.asp. (Make sure that you copy & paste the
- FULL Url to your web browser!)
- Once downloaded, run W95ws2setup.exe to install the update on your system.
-
-
- "Where can I find more info about the retail version of the game?"
-
- Please refer to the '4. MORE INFO' section of this Readme.
-
-
-

- 4.1 Story and feature list retail version
-
- In the 21st century, a nuclear disaster of apocalyptic proportions destroys all
- civilizations. Only few people manage to survive the fallout and slowly
- establish a new civilized society. On giant spaceships, the elect flee to a
- distant planet that promises to be paradise. But the poor, the forgotten, the
- unscrupulous and lawless are left behind.
-
- Primal law reigns on Earth for 700 years before mankind finally succeeds in
- creating a new civilization. Time has put its mark on the human race, and the
- living conditions have strengthened certain skills: the ability to adapt,
- incredible physical strength and even supernatural powers. Equipped like that,
- rivaling factions of survivors are now fighting over power and resources. The
- few towns that exist are polluted by crime, corruption and mistrust.
-
- Form alliances with other players, plot and scheme, snoop and spy, and fight for
